Tour of Places of Good Civic Engagement
The ‘Tour of Places of Community Engagement’ is a joint project between the City of Stuttgart, the Stuttgart Community Foundation and the Caleidoskop Volunteer Centre. Between 2022 and 2025, volunteers and staff visited a total of 27 places of community engagement in Stuttgart. The visits took place at the invitation of the venues. On site, discussions were held, experiences were shared and interviews were conducted.
Learning from places of engagement
The tour had a clear aim: to show what makes community hubs strong, how they facilitate collaboration, and what support they need.
The focus was on three questions:
- What makes a place for civic engagement special, successful and attractive to volunteers?
This involved a range of topics: interpersonal relationships, concepts and programmes, the structuring of tasks, the involvement and support of volunteers, and networking with other stakeholders. - How important are premises for a community engagement hub?
- What support do community engagement hubs need?
The experiences gained from the ‘Tour of Good Community Engagement Hubs’ have helped to establish the ‘Engagiert für Stuttgart’ portal.

A film crew made up of volunteers accompanied the tour. They filmed footage at four locations where people were getting involved.
A big thank you to all the places we visited, to the dedicated members of the project group and to our supporters!
