Friends Collective

The Freundinnen-Kollektiv is a community of volunteers run by and for women in Stuttgart. Originally launched as ‘Women Walk and Talk’, we are now organising more and more informal events to meet new people, spend time together and become part of the community ourselves.

What we achieve

We can see the impact we’re making very clearly in the fact that an initial, tentative ‘I’ll pop round’ often leads to so much more: new acquaintances, friendships, people organising their own get-togethers and, sometimes, even getting involved themselves. Women who simply join in at first later become best friends, but also walk leads, hosts or bring entirely new ideas to the table. This is how our community grows, thanks to the people who are part of it.

What sets us apart

We don’t just create activities for people, but with them and through them. Many of our initiatives spring directly from the community: someone has an idea, finds like-minded people and gives it a go. With us, volunteering shouldn’t feel like a chore, but should be fun. And at the same time, it’s a chance to make friends. We share responsibility; for example, at most events we work in pairs, and we give new volunteers the support and time they need to find their own place within our organisation.

What our volunteers say

Anna

I was absolutely nervous during my first walk. Afterwards, I went home with a huge smile on my face because I immediately felt seen and accepted. That’s exactly the feeling I want to pass on today.

Anina

Whether it’s a race track, a stadium or everyday life: I love the energy that’s created when people can be completely themselves and share special moments. That’s why I knew straight away: this is where I want to make a difference.

Julie

Community can only be built through interaction. Seeing how we’re reconnecting in real, face-to-face life, and how this gives rise to something that many people help to shape, means the world to me.
