Profile
Bernd Clausius
On behalf of the Centre for Digital Inclusion in Old Age, I support the weekly ‘Digital in S-Münster’ meeting and the newly launched AWO Digital Meet-up in Dürrlewang as a digital volunteer. And as a digital trainer, I help run the basic training courses several times a year for digital helpers who are new to volunteering with the Centre.
That’s why I’m involved
I love it when a plan works out! The participants’ small successes and the joy that comes with seeing something work are what spur me on and motivate me to keep tackling digital topics, problems and issues.
This is what gives me the most pleasure
It gives me great pleasure when participants find enjoyment in digital topics and are able to develop a sense of self-efficacy – no matter how small the topic or the success may be.
This is what my work involves
- Preparing and delivering short talks on specific topics
- Facilitating group discussions
- Providing one-to-one advice on digital issues
- Further developing the basic training programme for digital support workers
It helps not to set the bar too high for participants or for yourself, to avoid putting pressure on everyone. Everything is possible – nothing is compulsory. Recognise and embrace diversity!
Resilience and frustration tolerance play a major role. This is particularly true when you try to apply standards from your professional life to your voluntary work.
This is where I get involved
The Specialist Unit for Digital Inclusion in Old Age, part of the Department for Social Affairs and Inclusion, introduces older people across the Stuttgart metropolitan area to the use of digital applications through a wide range of programmes. This enables interested individuals to develop digital skills with the support of trained digital mentors.
