Profile
Günther Dierstein
Günther is involved in no fewer than four different areas! As a board member, adviser, author and race director, he is very active in many exciting initiatives in Stuttgart.
That’s why I’m involved
I get involved because I want to help people find a role that suits them and brings them joy. As an adviser at the volunteering agency, I listen and help people discover opportunities. Through my articles for W!N, I aim to show just how diverse volunteering is and to inspire people to get involved. In doing so, I get to know people and discover new perspectives.
At the City Senior Citizens’ Council, I can address issues that affect older people in their daily lives and raise awareness of them. It motivates me to work with others to put ideas into practice and do my bit to foster a sense of community in Stuttgart.
What I enjoy most
What gives me the greatest joy is making a meaningful difference together with others. Whether at the City Senior Citizens’ Council, advising the Volunteer Agency, or meeting people for my W!N articles. I’m inspired by what people can achieve with their skills and ideas. Special moments arise when this enthusiasm is contagious and leads to collective action.
This is what my work involves
At the StadtSeniorenRat, my responsibilities include organising local and central events, maintaining contacts with politicians and the local authority, and attending specialist events. At the Volunteer Agency, I advise people on suitable voluntary roles and assess digital enquiries from the online exchange. For the W!N magazine, I research topics, conduct interviews and write articles.
Think about what you might enjoy doing, and actively look for opportunities, for example on the volunteering portal. Ask around and give things a go. Organisations often need support in more areas than a single vacancy might suggest. Sometimes you only discover a suitable role once you’re actually involved. So talk openly about your interests and put forward your own ideas.
This is where I get involved
The Stuttgart City Council for Older People represents the interests of older people. I am a board member and delegate there. The Volunteer Agency supports people as they take up voluntary work. There, I advise those interested and write articles for the volunteer magazine W!N. At the Stuttgart-Vaihingen Cycling Club, I’m involved in race management for the annual Bundesliga X race.
