Profile

TUNZHOFER Children’s Choir

Weekly music lessons at the Tunzhofer Straße shared accommodation and joint performances promote education, community spirit and participation. The children’s choir brings together families from the accommodation and the neighbourhood, and sets an example of peaceful coexistence.

What we achieve

Neighbourhood work creates meeting places for people of different faiths, backgrounds, social circumstances and ages – refugee families, residents of the new Bürgerhospital neighbourhood and long-established neighbours.

The aims are positive social development within the neighbourhood, low-threshold opportunities for people to meet and foster good neighbourly relations, bringing together long-standing and new residents of the Bürgerhospital neighbourhood, and facilitating access to education and community life through shared activities.

What defines us

What defines us is our love of music and our desire to bring people from different backgrounds together. Our regular meetings with adults foster a sense of community, participation and interaction on an equal footing. Joint activities with refugee children are very close to our hearts. Their enthusiasm, curiosity and musical development give us courage and joy. What unites us all is the conviction that music brings people together – regardless of their background, language or age.

What our volunteers say

Stefanie

Music needs no language – when we sing and drum together, everyone immediately feels a deep connection and pure joy in life.

Burkhard

Seeing the sparkling eyes of the refugee children when we rattle and sing together gives me an incredible amount of strength.

Stefanie

I hope that the children of refugee parents, with whom we are making music today, will one day, as adults, say with joy: ‘Back then, there were people who cared about us.’
